Living in Hordle

Hordle is a little known gem of a village: a scattered settlement that is perfectly situated between the New Forest and the coast, west of Lymington. The parish of Hordle also includes the villages of Tiptoe and Everton and part of the hamlet of Downton.

Hordle is a popular destination for home hunters. Families are attracted by the village primary school and nursery that is consistently rated ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED and described as ‘a happy school where everyone smiles’. Business people like its situation between two mainline stations at New Milton and Sway. Retirees are drawn to the range of useful facilities, among them good country pubs (such as The Crown at Everton), local shops (including a co-op, garage, hair salon, pet store and pharmacy), and strong community spirit. Sports pavilions and recreation grounds at Hordle and Everton provide local hubs with activities ranging from cricket to football, gardening to yoga, and walking to wine appreciation groups.

Property provides something for most house hunters, including old thatch cottages, farmhouses, stylish new builds and grand country houses. However, the area mostly comprises quiet leafy roads of chalet bungalows and family homes built from the mid-century onwards, and edged by a countryside of field and woodland with that easy access to open Forest and the Solent.
